If there is such a thing as the best bow for a person’s money, then the Mission Archery Eliminator would be a top contender for the title. At just under 0, the Eliminator is a value priced bow packed full of high end features.

At first glance the archer sees the parallel limbs and thinks quiet, shock free shooting. The perimeter weighted cam is perfectly balanced to further smooth out the shot. The cam working along with the limbs can propel an arrow toward the target at an impressive 319 FPS IBO. Each Eliminator also comes with string cushions and the all new D-amplifier system. This whisper quiet bow was also designed with the bow hunter in mind. It is just 30.25 ATA and weighs in at just over 4 pounds making it compact and a dream to carry on any hunt. The Eliminator was also designed to be versatile enough to fit archers of almost any size. Its draw length can be adjusted from 24 to 30 inches and peak draw weights of 40 all the way to 70 are available.

Mission archery also produces top notch accessories that are designed to match this bow perfectly and has several pre- assembled packages available. They feature a sight, rest, quiver, stabilizer, and a wrist sling. Prices of these packages range anywhere from up to 0 and the technology of the accessories increase along with the price.

Whether you are a beginning archer or a seasoned veteran, the Mission Eliminator is a bow that delivers performance even the most demanding archer would be proud of.

Archery is the art, practice, or skill of shooting arrows with the help of a bow. The bow itself is said to have been invented in the late Paleolithic or early Mesolithic periods. The sport of Archery was revived in the Eighteenth Century by Royal patronage and archery societies founded by Sir Walter Scott which were set up across the country. Each society had its own strict entry criteria, outlandish costumes, and extravagant balls.

Article by Linda Thompson

Archery fishing or bow fishing is a sport where a fisherman employs archery equipment to catch fish. Archery can be traced back at least 5,000 years to the ancient Egyptians who practiced archery in hunting as well as in warfare. There is little evidence that ancient conventional archery was utilized for fishing purposes, almost certainly due to the efficiency of the fishing net. Although it is unclear exactly when archery fishing was developed it has become one of the fastest growing archery sports in the nation.

When archery fishing the fish is shot with a barbed arrow which is attached to a reel on the bow via a line. Carp are a very popular fresh water quarry of archery fishermen as well as alligator gar and paddlefish. Rays and sharks are popular prey in for salt water fishing.

When archery fishing you can shoot from the shore or wade slowly in the shallows but most people prefer to use a boat, any shallow flat bottom boat works very well.

Archery Fishing Equipment

Bows

You can use a regular hunting bow for archery fishing by simply attaching a reel to the front of the bow grip.

Arrows

Archery fishing employs much heavier and stronger arrows than those used in other types of archery. Archery fishing arrows generally are not feathered because of the relatively short distances associated with archery fishing.

Line

Line which is frequently made from braided nylon is attached to the arrow by connecting to a hole in the arrow shaft or through a slide system.

Reels

Hand-wrap reels are the simplest archery fishing reels, they comprise of a round spool that line is hand wrapped on to then fastened to a line holding slot. When the arrow is shot the line detaches from the holder and runs off the spool. The fish is then pulled in hand over hand. There is also a number of retriever type reels available.

Archery fishing is a fun and enjoyable sport, starting equipment can be brought for a very modest price and is easy to obtain, most states only require an ordinary fishing license although you should check your state laws and regulations.

Easton Archery

Easton Archery is well-known in the field of bowhunting as the makers of the finest and most durable arrow shafts, not only in the country, but all over the world. Arrow shafts made by Easton Archery actually dominated the latest 2008 Olympics in Beijing, with majority of the professional archers using this brand of arrow shafts.

Easton Archery divides their arrow shafts into hunting arrows and target arrows. These arrow shafts are made of different materials and are available in several different designs, including fell metal jacket and camouflage designs.

For target arrows, you can choose from carbon core, alloy / carbon, carbon, and alloy shafts. Meanwhile, for hunting arrows, you have several choices, which include N-fused carbon, carbon core, alloy / carbon, carbon, alloy, and bolts shafts. Easton Archery’s pride is their N-fused carbon arrow shafts, which are the first arrow shafts actually made of carbon nanotubes. This material has been known to be more than 180 times stronger than steel. Thus, these arrow shafts are able to penetrate much more deeply that other arrow shafts, and the special material used makes the shaft stronger and more durable. The best part is that these arrow shafts are light weight and do not vibrate as much as other arrows. These are very important characteristics that you should consider when looking for good quality bowhunting arrows.

Easton Archery also produces several ST arrows, which are manufactured using Easton’s Slim Technology. These arrows have a small diameter, which allows for deeper penetration of the arrow and easier kill. At the same time, these arrows with small diameters also have diminished surface area, resulting in minimal wind drift compared to regular arrow shafts.

Aside from selling these durable arrow shafts, Easton Archery also produces useful hunting accessories. You can choose from several different inserts, fletching and nocks for your arrows. Quivers and stabilizers are likewise available. You can also protect your gear with their bow cases, travel cases, arrow totes and gear wallets. They also have special hunting tools, including wrenches, bow scales, arrow scales, string wax and mapping systems. Easton Archery also offers clothing for both men and women, which include caps, t-shirts and jackets. Aside from these, they also have books and DVDs that archery enthusiasts will definitely appreciate.

Easton Archery has a very useful website. The site has an online shaft se;ector, which helps you identify several different arrow shafts that you can use, depending on the kind of cam on your bow, the point weight, the bow weight and the arrow length. They also have recommendations on which shaft is best used, highlighting the fastest and most lightweight arrow shafts, and also the heavier arrow shafts that have better penetration. Aside from this, they also have practical safety tips and a beneficial FAQ section on their website.

Easton Archery is the trusted brand in arrow shafts. They offer arrows that are lightweight, durable and penetrate deeper than other arrows in the market today. You will surely feel the difference!

 Beginning Hiking – A Guide

 By: Simply Hike
Posted: Apr 19, 2010

Hiking over mountains and trekking through thick forests may seem to be a tough and demanding sort of activity, but in fact all it takes is a good fitness level, some basic equipment and a sound understanding of a few key concepts. The key for those new to hiking, as with most other learning experiences, is to take things slowly.

So where should you start? An excellent idea to begin with would be to find a suitable location in your local area in which to practice; a park or an area of the nearest suburbs for example. By staying local to residential areas you are ensuring the terrain remains reasonably tame and that you are never too far from help if something should go wrong. Walking in a group with experienced hikers is always a good idea; it increases your own safety and that of the other members of the group and also allows you to ask questions if you are unsure about anything or would just like some extra guidance.

Anticipating weather conditions and equipping yourself accordingly is another important element of hiking and although you should only consider hiking in good conditions to begin with, it is still crucial that you remember to pack equipment and clothing for any outcome. Clothing is another element of paramount importance to a good hiker, with footwear being the most crucial attire of all. However, expensive hiking boots are by no means imperative; any footwear that is consistently comfortable and durable will be suitable for most hikes. It is vital, however, that you test a range of products and choose something most suitable to your own preferences. You should never wear a new pair of boots or shoes straight out of the box on a hike, instead wearing them for a few days in advance to allow yourself to properly adjust to them and ensuring that they are ‘broken in’ and will remain comfortable for the duration of the hike.

As with footwear, the rest of your clothing should be chosen primarily for the sake of comfort. Ideally, you should be wearing reasonably loose fitting clothes; they should not restrict your movement in any way, but should not be so lose as to become a hindrance. Weather conditions on your planned hike must also be taken into account and clothing that will maintain a constant and comfortable body temperature should be worn, with layering being the key here. Having chosen clothing to begin the hike in, you must also ensure you pack spares in case of changes in weather conditions; you should also never leave without a few extra pairs of socks!

Finally, there are a few items of basic equipment with which new hikers should familiarise themselves. The most important and potentially lifesaving of these are a good quality topographic map and compass. The ability to find your bearing and read a map accurately is the by far the most important skill for hikers. Other equipment to consider ranges from basics, such as sun lotion and sunglasses, through to potentially important items such as a first aid kit and water purifying tablets.

Could This Be The Most Ambitious Mountain Hike Ever

It has often been suggested that the most dangerous destination for mountain hiking in the world is the hike up to Mount Huashan in China. It starts with the Heavenly Stairs, a long, steep narrow series of concrete steps which are tolerable at best. However, only the most courageous trekker would venture across Canglong Ridge (also known as the Black Dragon Ridge), which is even steeper and narrower, with very sharp drops to the left and right.

Article by Joseph Kuyong

Are you interested in doing something fun and exciting on a day that you may have off from work or a weekend that you may have no plans? If you are and if you are like many other Americans, there is a good chance that you may be interested in doing something recreational. If you are, you have a number of different options. One of those options involves going on a hike.

Hiking is one of the most popular recreational activities in the United States. While different individuals have different reasons for enjoying hiking, it is easy to see that hiking is loved by many. In the United States, most cities and towns have at least one hiking park or hiking trail and many have more than one. What does that mean for you? It means that whether you are looking to go hiking for a few hours or if you want to go hiking for a few days, it should be more than possible for you to do so.

One of the many reasons why hiking is such a popular recreational activity is because it is a challenge. Yes, playing a game of basketball or a game of baseball can be fun and exciting, but there isn’t much out there like hiking. Even if you choose to hike the same hiking trail multiple times a year, you will still likely find surprises and changes. That is what is nice about nature; nothing stays the same forever. Every time that you go on a hike, it will seem as if it is a completely new and exciting adventure.

Hiking is also popular because it can be done a number of different ways. For instance, hiking is a recreational activity that you can do alone or with a group of your friends or even with your family. Most hikers prefer hiking with someone that they know. If you would prefer to hike independently, that is okay, but you may want to take a few extra steps to ensure your safety. These extra steps involve letting someone know where you will be hiking and when you can be expected back, dressing properly, and brining your cell phone with you.

Another reason why hiking is such a popular activity is because it is a workout. There are many individuals who enjoy hiking, well just because, but then there are others who like to go hiking as a form of exercise. Hiking trials are known for their vast array of landscaping. When going hiking, you could walk up steps, climb over small rocks, climb down hilly slopes, and much more. The varied landscape is perfect for workouts, as it really tests your body and its strength. If you are interested in hiking as a part of a routine workout, you may want to examine local parks that offer membership plans or discounts to regular hikers.

As previously stated, there are some individuals who like to go hiking just because. Although hiking is referred to as a recreational activity, there are many individuals who use hiking as a way to relax or escape from their everyday life. That is what is amazing about hiking; this recreational activity can offer you and provide you with so much, including a fun and exciting time.

If you would like to go hiking, you should give it a try. As a reminder, most cities and towns in the United States have hiking trials or hiking parks; therefore, you shouldn’t have any problem finding a hiking trail to get started on.

Glacier National Park Hiking – Hiking in Glacier National Park is a very favoured activity by visitors. And it’s no wonder. Glacier National Park has more than 700 miles of hiking trails, most of which are highly picturesque and have incredible views.

The hiking trails in Glacier National Park variety in difficulty level. Many trailed that guide to scenic vistas are easy hikes and short. Other hikes gain relevant amounts of vertical and head deep into the back country of Glacier Park. Whatever type of hike you are looking for, a trail subsists in Glacier National Park to meet your needs.

Hikers need to adopt individual responsibility for planning their trips and hiking safely. Before setting out on your hike, stop by a park visitor center to obtain needed warnings and recommendations. You will increase your probability of a safe hike, decrease your disturbance to park wildlife, and lessen cumulative damage to resources.

Self-guided walks to interpret trailside characteristics with brochures and signs. The Trail of the Cedars, Forest and Fire, Hidden Lake, Sun Point, Running Eagle Falls, and Swiftcurrent Nature Trails exhort hikers to experience Glacier National Park at their own pace. The Trail of the Cedars and Running Eagle Falls are wheelchair obtainable.

The weather in Glacier is highly changeable. The continental divide splits Glacier National Park into two very separate halves. The eastern side of the park, where Two Medicines, St. Mary and Many Glaciers are located, tends to be warm andwindy in the summer and cold andwindy the rest of the year. Since the continental divide takes away much of the wetness, the east side of the park also is significantly drier and sunnier.

>>See more Glacier National Park Hiking Photos<<

Thewestern side of Glacier National Park has a lowerelevation than theeastern side of the park. Due to the lowerelevation, hikes beginning on thewestern side of the park will generally have more of a vertical elevation gain than trails in theeastern side of the park, although trails such as the Avalanche Lake Trail have very gentle vertical gains.

Glacier National Park is one of only a handful of places in the lower 48 States where grizzly bears to look after a foothold. More than 300 grizzlies (and another 500 black bears) live in the park, and several of the most popular trails to cross prime grizzly habitat. When bears are `in residence’ along a trail the park service shuts the area, but otherwise it’s up to visitors to watch out for bears and deal with any close encounters. All this might give the awareness that traveling in Glacier is a nerve-wracking lottery, but in fact, unless you’ve spent so much time in Canada or Alaska that you’re completely bored by bears, catching sight of them is an unforgettable experience.

It is important to be truthful with yourself before heading out on a trail in Glacier. A trail that has 2000 vertical feet of elevation earnings is not an easy trail. It may be nearly impossible for those out of shape or who is not used to hike. You’ll have a much better time hiking in Glacier National Park by sticking to trail that are within your difficulty level. There are many easy, scenic hikes in Glacier Park that are not much more difficult that walking down the block, so there is no reason to kill yourself by pushing beyond your physical abilities.

 The Basics of Tent Camping

 By: My Camping Tents
Posted: Oct 23, 2010

Tent camping is an activity my family has been involved in for many years. Our camping trips combine fishing, hiking, and swimming to the regular camp site life of cutting wood, starting a fire, food preparation, cooking, eating, games, and just relaxing. We’ve made a lot of good memories from our camping trips. We’ve always gone up in the mountains and found great camping hiking spots either at designated campgrounds that offer water for washing, and some type of restroom (out house or rest-stop type), and garbage cans, or places where there were no creature comforts at all. We always camped by streams, lakes, or rivers during the summer months.

If you intend to have a successful camping experience, planning is important. As a retired Army Airborne Ranger, who has had to live out of a ruck (back pack) for many days, having the right camping gear when you’re camping will make the experience that much more enjoyable.
The best camping tents for families are tents that have separate rooms. Since we have two children our tent has three rooms — my wife and I sleep in a room, the kids sleep in a room, and the entrance room is for dressing and storage. We use a combination of foam and inflatable mattresses. We use rectangular sleeping bags that you can zip together for the wife and I, and the kids have their own individual bags. Bring extra blankets for chilly nights. We also use poncho liners for the kids to use inside their sleeping bags. We’ve had our tent for over 15 years and average 2-3 camping trips each summer.

We also take a couple of tarps. We use one tarp on the ground under the tent and make it long enough to have about 8 feet in front of the tent door. We take our shoes/boots off outside to keep the inside of the tent as clean as possible. We bring a small folding stool to place outside the tent door to help with putting shoes on. The second tarp is used to cover our kitchen/cooking gear if it rains.

We use two camping stoves – one uses propane (which we mainly use for heating water for hot drinks and washing) and the other is a 2 burner stove and uses fuel, which does not burn as hot. We use this one for cooking bacon, pancakes, eggs, etc. Bring a couple of frying pans, and camping pots/pans – remember to bring a spatula if you’re going to cook pancakes or eggs.

We always start a fire in the morning(for warmth) and in the evening, for cooking. Bring a collapsible grate to put over the fire if you plan on laying anything on it to cook or heat up. We make pointed sticks by cutting small branches from nearby trees for the polish dogs or bratwurst – so bring a couple of knives. We cut our own wood from the dead branches and logs you find near the campground. We bring an axe and small saw with a folding blade to get the wood the right size to fit in the fire pit.

Here are the basics of camping gear to bring:

Tent with rain fly, tarp, tent stakes, and hammer

Sleeping gear to include mattresses – inflatable or foam, blankets (poncho liners), and pillows

Cooking/kitchen equipment – camping stoves, folding camping table, frying pans, pots to heat water and cook in, paper plates, bowls, and utensils, napkins, paper towels, wash rags, towels, cutlery, large spoons, tongs, can opener, lighters, tin foil, plastic wash basin, scouring pads, disposable wipes, detergent, plastic storage bags, and trash bags. We pack this in see-though plastic tubs with folding lids. We pack most of our non-cooler food in these types of containers, too.

Fire pit necessities – if you plan on scrounging your own wood from the forest floor – axe, folding saw, gloves, newspaper for fire starting, lighter, a folding grate (campfire tripod), and a folding shovel.

Personal hygiene – soap, wash cloths, towels (dark in color), shampoo and shower shoes (if your campground has a shower), toothpaste, and toilet paper.

Safety equipment – flashlights, lantern, spare batteries, cell phone with car charger, map of the area, first aid kit, compass or GPS, and plenty of drinking water.

These are some of the items you’ll need to have an enjoyable camping trip. After your first trip, you’ll be able to fine-tune your list. Tent camping takes a lot of prep work, but it is so worth it for the memories you’ll always have.

7 Reasons Why Deep Sea Fishing Is A Great Adventure Sport

 By: Escalure Fishing Tackle
Posted: Jan 06, 2011

1. It’s a chance to get out to the open seas. A chance to explore what the deep waters can give you as an adventure. The wind, the waves, the view. Deep sea fishing is your weekend ticket away from the bustling metropolis where the only chance to a relaxing ocean view is when the beaches are closed or on the pages of a travel magazine.

We guarantee much better fishing results. Check out this new revolutionary invention and get ahead of your fishing friends. Buy the Award Winning ‘Esca Lures’ online at http://www.innovativefishingtackle.co.uk/

2. The Learning. Learning a new skill is an adventure as you get to discover the tricks of the trade when it comes to deep sea fishing. You thought you knew everything about fishing until you met your skipper. Learn how to lure, reel and haul a mammoth catch. Get to know the equipment that you thought you were familiar with. New skills, new gear for a new adventure.

3. Get to meet underwater creatures that you only enjoy watching on television. Dolphins, sharks, manatees, and sea turtles all give you a spectacular scene as you charter deeper waters in which they live.

4. The Challenge. Deep sea is a very challenging sport. Luring and hooking your first catch is only half of the adventure. When deep sea fishing, you battle with your fish. Keep in mind that you are in the open sea with depths of over 30 ft. Fish in these areas are strong swimmers, something that they use to elude predators, bigger fish and yes, fishermen. A deep sea fishing battle is like a duel, a display of strength and endurance, man over fish or fish over man? In this part of your adventure you’ll utilize the reeling skills that you’ve learned, with expert coaching from your skipper as your captain whom also assists by steering the boat slightly to give you a better vantage of bringing it in rather than breaking your line. To fishing aficionados, a fish battle is termed as the “dance”.

5. The element of surprise. Deep sea fishing has a lot of surprises in store for you, and even seasoned fishermen are not spared from it. Now, it’s most unlikely that your boat will be chomped in half by the descendant of Megalodon (an extinct megatoothed shark), and you suddenly become fish food. Not that kind of surprise. The unexpected of all unexpected will be that time when you get to face the biter at the end of your line, the one that you have been patiently and fervently hanging on to for the past 45 minutes. Once the fish is hauled out of the water, it is amazing to see a fisherman’s face; (even seasoned ones) flurry though a succession of emotions as they view their catch. Now match the element of surprise with a handful of luck, you may even catch fish of unimaginable size, shape, color and most of all species. It’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.

6. Deep sea fishing is a great way to re discover yourself. Be amazed at your accomplishments and stand in awe of what you can do. Deep sea fishing is an activity that breaks self imposed barriers that are often accompanied by words such as can’t, won’t and never, replacing them with can, success and, “that was fantastic! When do I sign up for the next weekend?”

7. Deep sea fishing is a sport where you create your own memories every time you get your line wet. There is never a fishing trip where you get the same results. Every trip is different from the previous which gives this sport its thousands and thousands of enthusiasts.

Land adventure sports are easily accessible and have their own thrill. But we have seen once too many of climbing, jumping, riding, and falling to even put a dent on the adrenaline meter. It’s time to go where not all men have gone to, where only a select breed of adventurers find their adrenaline fix in the open seas.

9 Things To Expect When Deep Sea Fishing

The wind in your hair, the spray of salt water over the bow, the anticipation of a monstrous tug at the end of your tackle, the thought of catching something that would take more than 5 people to carry, that image of showing a picture of you and a fish with a body length longer than yours. Nausea?….Hopefully not. Here are 9 other things you might expect on your deep sea fishing trip.

1. Nothing shallow. As the word deep means, you will be setting off on a boat to deeper waters that are more than 30 meters deep. This will definitely bring you a certain distance away from dry land so make sure you have everything you need with you.

2. Expect that your fishing expedition will be dependent on weather conditions; wind that adversely affects the waters wave strength plays a great role in navigation. Your skipper will tell you more about this as deep sea fishing is inherently dangerous. But given the right precautionary measures, risks are minimized. If your trip is cancelled due to these reasons, no need to feel blue, fishing charters can immediately set your trip to another date and time so you can wet your line and enjoy it safely.

3. Deep sea boats are much bigger than the ones used for inshore fishing. They are made of sturdier quality to be able to withstand the elements of the open sea such as strong winds and waves. They are also made larger to accommodate those hundred pound monsters you that your tackle will hook.

4. Deep sea fishing is more physical than inshore fishing. If you are accustomed to sitting on your buttocks with one hand on the pole and the other with a can of beer, think again. Deep sea fishing will take more than all hands on deck. When you hook that first catch, it will be more than a jerk you can handle with one hand. The fish are bigger and swim stronger than inshore fish.

5. Different set of rods. Deep sea fishing utilizes the same equipment only with different specs. The tackle is more tolerant to sea water as salt tends to cause corrosion faster compared to normal inshore or freshwater equipment. Lines are made more durable to withstand game weight and pull. Multiplier reels also take place of the conventional reel to eradicate friction. The different gears let you have a more stable and stronger hold of your line as you reel your 100 pounder out of the water and on to your boat.

6. Run INS. Expect to meet more than your average pond frogs, or local lake creatures. You are in the open sea! Where you may get the chance to see the good, the bad and the ugly of the deep blue sea. Dolphins, manatees, puffer fish, and yes sharks! No need to feel anxious about this possible run in, fishing charters and your skipper are very knowledgeable of deep sea fishing spots and will ensure absolutely safe.

7. Expect action. Deep sea fishing is action packed. Strong gusts of winds and waves will make sure you get your adrenalin pumping, and you take it a notch higher as you hook your first catch. Expect of course that you will get wet and sweaty as you tirelessly reel in your fishing trophy for the day.

Experience Deep Sea Fishing in South Africa

My first ever trip deep sea fishing in South Africa starts with an early morning wake up call at 5.00am. I am staying at lovely guest house accommodation in Port Alfred situated on the coast of the Eastern Cape. With a sense of excitement I kick start my day with a strong coffee and prepare food to take with me for what I hope will be a successful days fishing. The night before I took some Sturgeon (seasickness tablets) just to be on the safe side as I am not sure what the Indian Ocean has in store for me. We make our way down to the boat and prepare everything. We have taken 2 boxes of fresh sardines for bait.

Port Alfred has a lovely marina with a river that flows into the Ocean. We have timed our exit from the Kowie River mouth to coincide with low tide to ensure we have the smoothest exit to the Ocean. Nevertheless we put on our life jackets and ride the waves at the river mouth out to the vast Indian Ocean. We are riding in a Butt Cat which is superb for the Ocean with the ability to ride over the oncoming waves. Our skipper is Des, an experienced fisherman who knows the waters off this area of the Eastern Cape, and asks us to hold on as he picks up speed crashing over the waves in front of us. This is great and a really exciting start to the day completely taking my mind off any potential seasickness.

We head out for about 30 minutes before we drop our first anchor. Once we are settled we start to bait up our rods and drop our first lines. There are three of us on the boat so Des gives us expert advice on how to bait up and some tips on what to do when you get your first nibble on the line. I can’t believe how far down my line goes before my weight hits the bottom! As soon as my line reaches the bottom of the Indian Ocean I can feel the fish biting. This is amazing I didn’t expect to feel the bites so firmly. I know try and put into practice Des’ tips on making a strike. After a few fruitless attempts I make a proper strike and I reel in quickly.

Of course it’s a long way up and my arms are doing all the work but soon I can see the fish on the end of my line. The feeling is amazing! Des shows me how to bring the fish on board and then how to remove the hook from the fish. The fish is too small to keep but the taste of the catch has left me wanting more. Having returned the fish to the Ocean I bait up again. We spend about an hour in the first spot before moving on to a new spot. The Ocean is relatively calm and the weather is superb – always remember your suntan cream as the breeze out here can be very deceiving.

We stop for lunch halfway through the day to enjoy homemade sandwiches and cool drinks. Bobbing around on the Ocean we suddenly hear the noise of a familiar spurt of water made by a whale. Des points out the southern right whale about 600 meters away – incredible to think these mammals are cruising around near where you are fishing. We finish lunch and move on to a new spot. We enjoy in total about 8 hours fishing and catch enough good size fish for dinner later that evening. During the afternoon we spot lots of white water about a mile away from us – Des heads his boat towards the area and we are suddenly surrounded by 1,000′s of dolphins as far as the eye can see. This is an incredible sight and I take lots of photos to capture the moment.

As we return back to Port Alfred I look back on an amazing first experience of deep sea fishing in South Africa. South Africa has miles of coastline with a great choice of accommodation to be found from Guest Houses, Bed & Breakfasts, Lodges and Self Catering venues. From Cape Town all the way up the Garden Route to beyond Durban there are numerous beach holiday places to stay where you can take a fishing boat charter.

Fishing is a hobby that has endured both time and space. Since the earliest of civilizations, man has already understood the importance of gathering food from the bodies of water. Nowadays though, the sense of fishing has already morphed into more exciting activities rather than finding fish for food.

Deep sea fishing trip is a whole lot different matter and each experience is different from that of another fisherman. Aside from the satisfaction of being able to feast on your own catch, deep sea fishing also provides the peace of the sea and the solitude of the charter. It is also considered as a mental game wherein you must devise your own ways to catch more fish or to lure them easier into your bait. The technical aspects of deep sea fishing is also far more complicated than the normal boat fishing however, the major principles still remain the same in almost all cases.

Deep sea fishing is more a challenge than a need to find the fish. It tends to be more of an adventure towards the sea while having a fun ride. It is more of experiencing the rush and the waves of the ocean and the wind. Catching the fish is not secondary though. After all, you set out for it in the first place.

Obviously, deep sea fishing lets you explore the deeps. Thus, you would not catch ordinary varieties of fish but strange-looking sea creatures in particular. However, these are seldom caught as these require special machineries.

Deep sea fishing trip is a sport made for fishermen that embarks them toward the deepest parts of the water.

The most common destination for deep sea fishing trip is the Gulf of Mexico. There is literally a wide spectrum of fish varieties that would not only educate you on the wonder of the fish world but would also help you in memorizing the species. You will most likely find large schools of snappers and groupers but you also stand a good chance of seeing (and catching) fishes like Spanish mackerel, kingfish, tuna and the giant red fish.

The captains of the fishing boat in this side of the world are known to be experts and can warrant you of excellent deep sea fishing trip. These captains are also known or their professionalism and adhere to maintain the proper conduct, and rules and regulations at sea. Additionally, the crews of the ships often make all the arrangements for the fisherman on board which saves you from the hassles of finding and of looking for good fishing spots. Some would even clean and bag your catch for you.

Selecting the Best Equipment For Sea Fishing

As the conditions of river or lake fishing differ from deep sea fishing, the equipment used also differs. Although, the same equipment that is used for river or lake fishing can be used for fishing near the shore of the sea, the equipment for deep sea fishing differs to a great extent. Therefore, choosing the best equipment is very important for a perfect fishing experience.

Where light weight and weak fishing tackle would suffice for river fishing, deep sea fishing requires heavy and strong fishing rods as the fishes in the sea are much bigger and stronger than those in the river or lake. Fishing rods are available in different materials and the choice simply depends on what you aim or expect to catch on your trip.

Heavy graphite fishing rods are ideal for deep sea fishing as they are light in weight and are strong enough to even catch big fish such as a shark or marlin. However, they are not flexible and thus not ideal for fishes which try to resist a lot. Not to worry, fiberglass fishing rods are ideal for such type of fishes as they are highly flexible and light weight which makes them perfect for a fight with the fishes.

Finding the best rod can be a little problematic if you have no experience in buying rods before. Never the less, it is not that difficult that you would lose hope of finding a good rod. The internet is the best place for finding good fishing rods as you can easily hunt for fishing rods at far greater number of stores.

The internet can provide extensive knowledge about various types of rods available in the markets, what materials are used to make them and which type of fishes are they suitable for. You can even buy fishing rods on the internet by visiting the websites of many popular fishing rod sellers. You should always do some research on the products available and read reviews if possible to get an opinion about a particular product.

The hook and lure are also very important for catching big fishes. Big bait would invite big fishes while small bait would invite only small fishes as the big fishes would generally ignore it. Several types of lure and hooks are available which are to be used with only a specific type of fishes.

Therefore, it is very important that you take the right type of lure and hook for the fishing trip.

The fishing line must also be chosen carefully so as to support the weight of heavy fishes of the deep sea. Selecting proper equipment is the key to success on a fishing trip and the key to selecting the best equipment is the appropriate use of the internet.

Sailfish & Safety – Important Tips to Make Your Deep Sea Fishing Holiday a Great One

Manzanillo is known for many things, but it is most known for being the “Sailfish Capital of the World.” Fishermen (and women!) come from all over to go deep sea fishing and hopefully catch “the big one.” But there are a few things you should keep in mind before sailing the high seas.

Tip #1: Check the Weather Report

Your boat captain should be doing this anyway, but it never hurts to just look at the weather report and make sure there isn’t a storm on the way. A good rule of thumb: if all of the other boats are staying docked, then you probably should too.

Tip #2: Double Check Your Gear

The day before your excursion, go through all of your equipment. Make sure everything works and that you have aren’t running out of anything. Try to get this done before noon so you can get replacements before the stores close.

Do the batteries in your flashlight work and do you have back-ups? Do you have a functional first aid kit? Do you have a waterproof bag for your wallet and cell phone and does it attach to your clothing correctly? Do you have rations in case you are stuck on the water for a couple of days? Do you have a couple of flares in case you need to signal someone in the night?

All of these items may sound small, but could be very important if something happened.

Tip #3: Make Sure the Radio is Working

Before you let the boat leave the dock, ask the captain if he has checked the. If they have a GPS system, check to see if that is working too.

Tip #4: Find the Life Jackets

Hopefully, your captain will go through some quick safety features before you leave. Make sure you know where the life jackets, rafts and/or lifeboats are located. In addition, find out where the fire extinguishers are located.

Tip #5: Learn Meditation

Sometimes a minor problem can turn into a catastrophe if everyone panics. Remain calm and offer the captain and his crew help in handling other passengers. If they are your family, make sure that you are firm in your instructions and show confidence.

Tip #6: Don’t Bite Off More Than You Can Chew

Some deep sea fish are very strong and can pull a person off a boat. Be sure that your fishing rod is securely anchored and that you are also attached to the boat in some way in case your rod gets free. If you have children with you, this is extremely important. Little Billy isn’t going to win a battle with Señor Fish.

Tip #7: Leave Your Information

Make sure that somebody has a copy of your vital information before you leave. If your spouse is staying on the mainland, be sure that she knows what you are doing, the name of the charter company, when you should be returning and other information that will be helpful in case something happens. This includes any medical information and names and numbers of emergency contacts back home.

If you are traveling alone or your entire party is going on the trip, it is a good idea to leave your information with the front desk so that you have someone looking out for you.

All of these tips don’t take very long and they could save your life. Make sure that your trip is a happy one and not a disaster.
